Romans5

WELCOME TO ROMANS5. My name is David Stamen and I am from Exeter in the UK. I have only just begun this site. My aim is to provide Bible teaching on a wide range of subjects, with a particular emphasis on the nature of the Gospel.  Below are links to audio messages and written articles. The first message below is just an introductory talk I gave on the subject of why Jesus died. I hope to follow this with a series on this topic.

THE REFORMATION ON TRIAL: Was it truly evangelical and evangelistic?

NOTICE: I have just completed an published a book called, The Reformation on Trial, which focusses on the religious nature of the Protestant Reformation, assessing to what extent, if at all, it was truly evangelical and evangelistic. This started out as a series of audio talks that I gave but I was then encouraged to put it in book form. The link below will take you to those audio talks and to certain extracts from the book that may be of particular interest. This book is meant to be the precursor of a second book, the aim of which is to highlight the nature of the Gospel and of the New Covenant, particularly by contrasting it to Reformed Theology.

UPDATE: The book The Reformation on Trial is now available on Amazon:

In 1553, John Calvin faced a backlash of criticism for his part in the trial that led to the burning at the stake of Michael Servetus for heresy. In response to this intense opposition, Calvin hurriedly wrote his Defence of the Orthodox Faith in 1554, in which he argued that it is not only the right, but also the God-given duty of the (religious) civic or state authorities to punish and even execute unrepentant heretics. Calvin’s book received widespread approval from the leading reformers of his time, as well as their heartfelt congratulations.
